My father’s family is from Uig in Lewis, and I have lived here since 1973; I also brought my two children up on the island, and they now bring their own children home to holiday here every year.
I worked in three local secondary schools, and retired in 2021 after 12 years as Head of English at The Nicolson Institute in Stornoway – the largest high school in the north-west of Scotland.
I am fascinated by the history, culture and traditions of these Western Isles, enjoy rambles in the picturesque Lews Castle Grounds, hikes across heathery moors, strolls along stunning island beaches, wild swimming, whale and bird watching, Hebridean artisan foods, music and writing from the Western Isles, and so much more – in short, I love island life, and want to share that love of all things Hebridean with visitors to this wonderful island archipelago and ensure their visit is both memorable and enjoyable.
I speak a little bit of French.
