Liz Carmichael

I am Liz Carmichael, a Green Badge Guide. Not a native of Lewis, I have lived here for 30 years.
I came to the island as a teacher at the Nicolson Institute but have come to regard Lewis as home.

Since retiring, I am trying my hand at crofting. I bought the croft and have six Hebridean sheep, the native breed to the island. They lamb in spring and I have hours of entertainment watching my lambs at play. I also have laying hens and two cats. I have cut peats to burn in the winter. I also have a poly tunnel and large garden to grow my own vegetables.

My interests are all things outdoors. I love watching the birds and I am always excited to see the House Martins and Swallows return to the barn to nest. I am part of the Shorewatch team that monitor the whales and dolphins of the coast. I enjoy walking and looking out for interesting sightings.

I am not a Gaelic speaker but enjoy the culture of the Islands. I enjoy leading walks and passing on the information of all aspects of island living.
