I am Liz Carmichael, a Green Badge Guide. Although not a native of Lewis I have lived here for 30 years.
I came as a teacher in the Nicolson Institute, the secondary school on Lewis, not meaning to stay but ended up retiring and settling here.
Since retiring, I am trying my hand at crofting. I bought the croft and have 3 Hebridean sheep, and 3 lambs, 2 laying chickens and a cat. I cut peat to burn in the winter. I also have a poly tunnel and large garden to grow my own vegetables.
My interests are all things outdoors, I love watching the birds and I am always excited to see the House Martins ad Swallows return to the barn to nest. I am part of the Shorewatch team that monitor the whales and dolphins of the coast. I enjoy walking and looking out for interesting birds and animal sightings.
I have no formal qualifications for guiding but I enjoy passing the information I have gathered over the years here. I am not a Gaelic speaker but enjoy the culture of the Islands.
