Ceit Crawford

My family background is from Callanish and Dun Carloway, both sides being Macleans. In respect of Callanish, this goes back some three hundred years with many cousins still in Callanish. When Callanish village was moved and the Druidical stones cleared of peat, my Great Great Great Uncles were involved in this. My Grandfather’s family was removed from Mangersta, Uig, to Doune Carloway where they built a house directly below the Broch – family descendants still live there. My Great Aunts helped to restore the Broch when it was taken into care of the state and built the walls that still exist round the Broch today – strange but true!

I was a Harris Tweed weaver before starting up a successful restaurant which attained status in ‘Scotland the Best’. I have a wide knowledge of island life and a particular interest in Genealogy and can trace my Maclean family roots back through Dunain, Skye, to Hector Maclean of Coll.

I have been a guide since 2017.
