Janis is an experienced Green Badge guide, who has been guiding in Lewis and Harris since 2015. She came to Lewis in 1989 to teach French and Spanish in Stornoway, after teaching English in a school in Peru for seven years. Since retiring from teaching, she has completed a BA in Gaelic language and culture at the University of the Highlands and Islands.
